Our Story

The short version

I'm Andrew, and I make everything you see here in my workshop in Helensville, northwest of Auckland.

I come from a family of artists, with a background in engineering and many years working in technology. furnACE brings those worlds together: creativity, technical thinking, precision and hands-on making.

Every piece is my own design, cut, assembled and finished here. No imported stock, no mass production, and no AI-generated product images.

How furnACE started

furnACE grew from a frustration with how much supposedly "New Zealand" décor is imported, generic or simply decorated with a Kiwi symbol.

I wanted to make something different. Real timber, original designs, genuine depth and pieces that actually feel connected to New Zealand.

So I built a workshop and started making them.

My partner Diane works alongside me, helping with assembly, markets, ideas and the all-important second opinion when a design isn't quite there yet.

What makes a furnACE piece different

Original designs
Every furnACE piece starts here. I design the artwork myself rather than relying on mass-produced files or imported products.

Real materials
We use timbers including macrocarpa, walnut, matai and oak, together with quality plywood and acrylic. Natural grain means every piece is slightly different.

Layered construction
Much of our wall art is built in layers, creating real depth and changing shadows as the light moves across it.

Made to last
Our pieces are carefully assembled and finished rather than made as disposable décor.

Real photos. Real products.

Every product photo on this site is taken by me and shows an actual furnACE piece.
No stock renders. No AI-generated product images. No mock-ups pretending to be finished products.

What you see is what we make.
